Atmosphere and hygge

Interior design

The Danish word "hygge" has no direct English equivalent. "Coziness" comes close, but doesn't quite capture it. You will experience what hygge means when you visit one of our 21-5 homes.

We have developed our unique 21-5 style over time, and it varies from destination to destination.

For example, in Chamonix, it's a lot of stone, wood and leather, while in Mallorca, the colors and materials are inspired by the sea.

When planning a renovation and choosing colors for tiles, floors, walls, etc., we start by creating a mood board. Based on this, decisions are made about furniture, rugs, lamps and more, and the design and interior team can begin collecting items for the property.

Jazz & Completion

Magic dust in their pockets

Our talented Jazz & Completion team are truly special, they have magic dust in their pockets!  Jazz or “jazzing up a 21-5 home” has over the years become an internal term for what the team also does when spreading the magic dust in a home. They jazz up the home. Hence the Jazz & Completion team.

When the furniture is in place, the house is not yet complete. This is where our Jazz & Completion team moves in. With their magic dust they are transforming the house into a cozy home. Including everything from art on the walls, to games, yoga mats, tea tongs, wherever such items make sense. Every time is like moving into a new home, and that is always hard work.

Our interior design team is involved from the planning stage of the renovation, so that they can plan and collect everything that will make the houses feel like home. Items are assembled and packed in Denmark and shipped off to the destination along with the furniture. The final items are purchased locally.

Sometimes it doesn't take much to create the right atmosphere and hygge, other times the home requires a little more. Whatever the home requires, the Jazz & Completion team provides for the right number of decorations and ornaments. Immediately, you will feel right at home in a 21-5 home, largely due to our very dedicated and skilled Jazz & Completion team.

Homes equipped with everything you can imagine

Where life is lived

Do you know the feeling when you arrive at a rental property? The place is vacuumed clean, the cleaning crew has removed everything left over from the previous visit, and everything else has been thrown away. 21-5 homes are very different.

Every time you arrive at a 21-5 home you've been to before, it's like you've only been away for a moment. When a 21-5 home goes into operation, it's stocked with everything. Coffee, wine, champagne, dishwasher detergent, freezer bags, aluminum foil, pasta, rice, ketchup, and more. The only things that are not included are perishables. It is also filled with laundry detergent, extra light bulbs, soap, shampoo, candles, etc.

When the homes are used, the owners restock them themselves. There should always be an unopened package of toilet paper, for example, so when the last package is opened from the storage supply in each house, a new one is purchased and replaced before leaving the home.

This way, the homes are always well stocked and feel very cozy (hyggelige). The rule is to leave what you yourself would like to come to. If you don't want to eat another family's yogurt, just throw it away.

In addition to being fully stocked, all 21-5 homes are equipped with every practical item imaginable. Rubber boots, kitchen tongs, tools, shopping bags, and many other practical items you might need on vacation.

Selected and passionate suppliers

Furniture for the homes

We choose furniture for our homes that we feel is both aesthetically pleasing and practical.

When we buy our homes, we think about the furniture from the very beginning of the planning phase, as it creates the best results. We furnish our homes with furniture, rugs and lighting that are not readily available off the shelf, and at the same time give the homes the right patina and feel of 'home'. This means, among other things, that we emphasize the use of custom-made furniture from European manufacturers.

We use many Danish/Scandinavian suppliers who provide furniture made of pure and natural materials. For example, we choose beds that are specially designed for both warm and cold destinations in 21-5. Some furniture also comes from Italy and Spain - and is always of high quality.

We use subcontractors who have their own lighting supplier who can provide unique lighting not seen in every home.

We spend time finding old, beautiful furniture that can be reupholstered and/or restored to support the local atmosphere of the destinations. The old furniture is purchased in most parts of Europe.

We buy antiques at Danish and foreign auctions. We acquire unique items and curiosities at foreign auctions and antique markets, as well as on shopping trips to local retailers.
